Watch her burn across the sky

In most of our fairytales, we have been hearing from ages that the Princess or the damsel is always in distress and looks out of her window and sees — poof! Here comes a knight in shining armour, a prince on a white horse. He kills the villain(s) and sweeps the princess off her feet. He takes her to his kingdom or saves her life with a true love’s kiss.
But is it necessary for the prince to save her? Can she not save herself and stand on her own two feet? I believe that a princess can be dainty but that doesn’t mean that she can’t sustain herself. She doesn’t always need a man to be dependant upon. She can be sweet as well as powerful. A supportive and significant other must help her achieve success and not put out the fire of determination inside her. Some day I want to see her rise and watch her burn across the sky…
